DeLand Municipal Airport is a beehive of activity as preparations are in full swing for the 1st annual DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase, to be held Thursday through Saturday, November 3-5, 2016.
Airport Manager John Eiff and Showcase Field Manager Gary Filip are finalizing site preparations while Sport Aviation Administrator Jana Filip manages the myriad of details necessary to ensure a safe and successful event. Jana said, “We’re extremely busy, but we’re having a great time preparing the site for our exhibitors and visitors. We’re finalizing exhibitor locations, forum presenters, food concessionaires and more as we count down to our opening on November 3. It’s a very exciting time!” Gates will open at 8 a.m. daily, with Exhibits opening at 9 a.m.
Nearly 100 exhibitors have confirmed their participation at Showcase 2016; a complete listing of companies attending, along with their booth location, is available at www.sportaviationvillage.com/showcase/exhibitors/.
EAA Homebuilt Community Manager Charlie Becker will be the highlight of Thursday’s activities with his Keynote presentation at 1 p.m. in the Show Center Tent. In addition, daily demo flights, manufacturer showcase flights and exhibitor demonstrations will provide lots of opportunities for aviation enthusiasts to enjoy learning about flying for fun.
Homebuilt aircraft owners wishing to attend Showcase 2016 and park in the special Homebuilts Display area are encouraged to register as soon as possible. The Homebuilts Display will accommodate approximately 50 aircraft each day. Registration can be completed online at www.sportaviationvillage.com/homebuilt-display-parking-registration. Additional parking for homebuilts will be available in a nearby transient parking area. EAA and AOPA members – please bring your membership card to enjoy a 25% discount on admission!
Jana Filip has confirmed that AirBossInc. will manage the event’s air traffic operations, working from a temporary tower on DeLand Municipal Airport. Look for a NOTAM announcing aircraft arrival and departure procedures in the near future.
Forum presenters are also being finalized. A very limited number of forum slots remain open. Anyone interested in presenting an educational forum should submit an application immediately to www.sportaviationvillage.com/forums/.
Volunteer activities are ramping up as well, with Volunteer Team Leaders meeting regularly to prioritize activities. Additional volunteers are still needed to fill many volunteer slots. A complete listing of volunteer opportunities with assignment details is available online at: www.sportaviationvillage.com/volunteer-opportunities/. Volunteering is a great way to meet aviation enthusiasts from all over the United States and the world … and learn a lot about recreational aviation!
Reservations can also be made online for under-wing camping as well as the rental of Scootarounds. Those links also can be found on the website homepage, www.sportaviationshowcase.com
To encourage youth participation in aviation, students under the age of 18 will be offered complimentary admission on Saturday, November 5, when accompanied by a chaperone. Please bring a student ID for verification.
